Posting could be for showing off or asking for feedback. Other useful RM websites. First off, let me start by saying that I'm no artist. While my ability to craft a decent sketch is laughable, I am capable of running a piece of software.
In making my latest project, I found that I disliked the cutoff style face files in RPG Maker. So, I opted to use the Bust or Portrat versions of the same. But when I started looking for variety, I found my needs were greater than the options available. While I had seen the several of the portraits in the High Fantasy DLC, they seemd, to me, as dead eyed as those from the creator that accompanies VX Ace. However, I recently learned that DAZ Studio is now free, and while my previous efforts with the Poser software were wanting, I'm beginning to like what I can craft with DAZ. Here's, an example character I'll be including in my Maker project. I feel that the 'dead eyed' look is avoidable.
Your blonde guy there uses the wide, large eyes and the bored slit mouth. Faces made in the character creator can look much more expressive than the blank 'on-meds' look. Mix up the different eyes and mouths, combine them with different noses and face shapes. Sometimes I make a new portrait in the character creator and feel like I can get somewhat of a snap judgement about their personality just from their portrait. Or maybe I'm just too quick to judge.
Does anyone else do this? For instance, I'd imagine Dougal there to be quite the unsuccessful womanizer. He's quick to hit on the ladies, make an off-color joke or flirt, but he's ultimately harmless. He's joking and just likes to have a good time.
He acts flippant and uncaring, but in the end he'll prove to be an honorable friend.or not. Of course that's just my snap judgement of him based solely on his looks. I can't really explain why I feel that way about his character, and others may have a completely different view of him. But I do feel that the level of detail in the DAZ portraits can help me connect with the character more. They are nice and expressive. The only concern is meshing the style of the DAZ portraits with the rest of your game so that they don't clash.
I use a combination of example 1 and the Dead Eye, unfortunately. For me, it's more of a time issue. I'm not an artist, so I can't develop my own material, and am heavily reliant on generators and community resources. I like all characters, even insignificant NPC's, having faces. There are a lot more 'example '1 resources available out there. So if I want to be consistent and have a decent amount of diversity, that makes them the better choice. Having purely Bust portraits would be amazing, though.

Although, not going to lie, Dougal freaks me out a little.

I'm sure that RPG Maker enthusiasts and visitors to RPG Maker Times alike are aware of the and the by now. These are two separate programs: the VX one loads via RMVX or separately and the XP one is a standalone program. Wouldn't it be cool if both windowskin creators were combined, where instead of having to create RMXP and RMVX windowskins separately, you could use a single program to create both simultaneously?
If such a program existed, it would certainly make life much easier! Well, such a program DOES exist, thanks to the superlative talents of one Narvelan, a nonpareil Portugese (sic: Brazilian) programmer, who has created the peerless (version 1.0 BETA). I tell you, this utility is THE DEFINITIVE windowskin creator! I can't laud this program enough, so I'll outline its rich features instead.
